What is Project Argaman?
A program that matches elementary school kids with high school students, across the U.S to mentor and increase math enthusiasm!
Why did we start this?
We are the next generation of leaders, and we are one nation!
In order to ensure a thriving future, we cannot be divided by our location or politics. Math is a universal language and can also be a gateway to creating national unity.
Why do this across the country?
As a nation, we must take care of each other. There is no Red or Blue when it comes to math. Just Argaman (ancient Hebrew for purple).
Where is Project Argaman?
Anywhere and everywhere! On Zoom!
Who can be mentored?
Anyone across the country who is in elementary school! This age is a crucial time when kids unconsciously choose to be either a “math person” or not. It is so important to make sure your child has the chance to solidify their math confidence before choosing to push math away.
What will mentees be “tutored” in?
They will not be tutored. They will receive extra support in math, and most importantly inspiration! Their mentor will check in on them one to two times weekly for 30 minutes, around homework, or to work with them on some extra puzzles and activities. The core goal is to keep students focused and inspired in the subject of math.
Why is Project Argaman run by students and not adults?
Kids look up to older kids and pay attention to what they do. Teenagers can therefore have a greater impact, exciting them about math.
As a parent, why would I want my child to be mentored here instead of doing something fun?
Who said math can’t be fun?
Who runs this project?
Project Argaman was founded by Shoshana Hoffman Kleiner (20), a graduate of SAR High School and a freshman at Brown University. Shoshana loves the deeper riddles of math. She pretends to like kale (but really craves pulled brisket) and loves to play the electric guitar. She has been involved in math camps and studios for years, first as a camper, then as a CIT and TA. Project Argaman was founded during the COVID summer of 2020 when she decided to run a Zoom math camp, She then formally launched Project Argaman that fall.
All mentors will be vetted by Shoshana (as well as another adult advisor) before they are matched with a mentee. Mentors also undergo training in the Project Argaman curriculum and techniques before they are matched.
